If a hospital admits you in, then they are responsible for fixing you up before releasing you. So many hospitals go through elaborate loops to make sure emergency rooms will not even look at anyone without proper insurance. A few years ago in LA a 12-year old black kid was the victim of drive by shooting. With his friends' help he walked himslef to the emergency ward of a hospital where he was denied admission pending arrival of the "right" ambulance. He bled to death at the doorsteps. I bet this does not happen in Canada.
