First of all there were 1266 contracts traded (DEC Oct. 40). These traded at 3/4, so the value is only 80K, still a big gamble though (at least for me <VVBG>). Unfortunately I can't tell if these were at the bid or ask. At the end of the day the ask was 3/4, but earlier in the day, 3/4 was probably the bid. So if the options traded early in the day, someone wrote the puts, but if they traded at the end of the day, someone bought them. Do you know when they traded?

I agree this isn't an arb situation. Someone is making a big bet, so they may know something. But it makes a great deal of difference whether they traded at the bid (early in the day) or the ask (late in the day).
