Steve; What! introduce a tower of babel into the orderly gatescode(all bow) world?.

The entire thing is fragmenting, with many now making Intel workalikes, and now a Java virtual machine being being writ for all machines, and now Java Chips. So the only thing missing is Win XX Java written.(Written by someone else, not MSFT).
Sort of like standard nuts and bolts instead of all different. We are facing a funny situation, instead of a race between 2-3 horses, we have a race between 200-300 mice, all running this way and that. A cat or two in there and a dog to generate fear.

However I think MSFT will stay the defacto standard OS in window ?? NT??, and all the others will fight over bits and pieces. Java might make some inroads, espt if a browser emerges for the NC.

On the CPU side, a free for all will ensue over the next 2-5 years. I expect there will be AMD/IBM/CYRIX-NS/Intel/??? by the turn of the century. Intel still biggest, but the sume of the others larger than Intel(now all others are 20% of Intel).
