That's why I said "of a certain age." It's only recently, seems to me, that nice folks started to raise kids without religion. I have never known a contemporary who was. It would be interesting to get input from someone who was actually raised without religion. I know the kids of some folks hereabouts fit that category, but they don't post and would be too young to have a lot of insights about the implications even if they did.

Maybe fifteen years ago a colleague who was expecting asked me for my advice on what to do in that regard. She didn't want to phony up a religion just so she could raise her kids in it. OTOH, she didn't know anyone who had been raised without it and was unsure as to how that might work. Neither did I. Subsequently I've met people on SI who raised their kids without religion and it seems to have turned out OK but at the time I had no such experience.

I think people change their viewpoints for many more reasons than "what makes sense".

It seems to me that it's about resonance. Something either resonates with you or it doesn't. Anyway, that's what I meant by "what makes sense."
