I think that the US does have to find a way to institute health care. I think that it has to be instituted in a way that doesn't make the mistakes of other countries. Canada has many good points but the decisions are too often made in and implemented by Ottawa and then the provinces are left to fund them on their own. As Ottawa takes money away in order to invest in other priorities, our healthcare started to deteriorate. Like many things cuts to transfers of payments to the provinces were made as Ottawa cut the deficit, leaving the provinces to wrestle with higher deficits and no funds to pay for a very expensive system. The provinces instituted cuts to health care but the cuts were made by hospital management so they came from the ranks of workers and in the form of salary caps to doctors. So the level of government that is responsible for the health system must have control of the finances necessary to run the health system. Having one level of government set standards and objectives and control the money and another level of government be responsible for delivery and actualization of the senior levels ideas is less than workable.
