"There is no uniter"

I must disagree. The fact that leaders from BOTH parties HAVE united the people in the past is clear enough evidence of the common ground and shared values that dwarf the petty and perverse polarities that begin with the self interest of power and the need to maintain that power through persuasion.

What might have happened to America without the leadership of the Republican, Mr. Lincoln during trying times? What might have happened to America without the 4-time leadership of the Democrat, Mr. Franlklin D. Roosevelt through the Great Depression and his "fireside chats"??

Polls between Liberal and Conservative respondents consistently rank their leaders throughout history with an uncanny congruence. This tells me that the values displayed by these great people speak to a common core of values shared across political lines.

No. I think the polarities exhibited on SI are more perverse than fundamental. I'm reminded of a George Jones song line. "The only real difference between sinners and saints is...

ONE IS FORGIVEN AND THE OTHER ONE AIN'T!"
