They can make all the arguments they like. From my perspective, though, when I do a wire transfer it's likely that the money has to be there at a time certain, for example to settle a stock purchase or pay off a mortgage, two uses I have had for wire transfers. If the money gets sidetracked, that's a big problem. Going to the the appropriate office and making a claim to get my money back doesn't hack it. If they gave it back to me, I'd just have to wire it again. And they'd just take it again, I suppose. It makes no sense. So much for productivity...

Long story summarized, it's counter to the essence of wire transfers to disrupt the immediacy of the transfer.
