The "Bush Agrees Iraq Just Like Vietnam" Lie

Here is a perfect example of the press spinning a story into a lie. In an interview with ABC's This Week, George Stephanopoulos noted a NY Times columnist's comparison of the increased violence in Iraq during Ramadan to the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. President Bush noted that may be an appropriate comparison--that is, the enemy using a holiday as an excuse to ramp up violence for intense period of time hoping we'll be overwhelmed.

Bush was agreeing with the strategic comparison, not to the desperate wish by today's left that Iraq is Vietnam. And why do they want that to be the case? Because America failed in that war. It was not an actual failure, it was one of will, which was deliberately and methodically decimated by the American left. Despite the fact that we won every battle in Vietnam, including the Tet Offensive by the North Vietnamese communist enemy, we were pushed into retreat because of the left's control of the public discussion, and its unending work to destroy American morale.

With that background, check out how Agence France Presse (of course), spun the story, and of course, because of its drama, is the spin now being carried with the media in general:

----Bush acknowledges Iraq-Vietnam war comparison

US President George W. Bush has for the first time acknowledged a possible parallel between the raging violence in Iraq and the Vietnam War.

But the White House also affirmed that it has no plan to reassess its strategy in the war-ravaged country, despite a surge in US casualties there and unrelenting sectarian bloodshed.

Lovely. No bias there. Only a few graphs later do they note the context:

Bush was asked in an ABC News interview late Wednesday if he agreed with a New York Times columnist's comparison of the strife in Iraq with the Tet Offensive, which is considered a key turning point in the US war in Vietnam.

"He could be right," Bush said. "There's certainly a stepped-up level of violence...Bush said insurgents were trying "to inflict enough damage that we'd leave." "First of all, Al-Qaeda is still very active in Iraq. They are dangerous. They are lethal. They are trying to not only kill American troops, but they're trying to foment sectarian violence," he said.

And then they note:

The Tet Offensive, a campaign launched by the North Vietnamese in early 1968, was considered a military defeat for them, but the scope of the assault shocked Americans and helped turn US public opinion against the war.

Many Americans concluded that the war was unwinnable or victory too costly.

Americans "concluded" this? Actually, we were barraged day in and day out by National Media jamming that down our throats. And the Tet Offensive wasn't "considered" a military defeat for the North, is was a military defeat. The way it was portrayed here at home by the media is very much as the national media portrays Iraq--ignoring the successful truth of the matter while focusing on the negative.

The left love those days because they caused this nation to fail. It was their Golden Years. Jane Fonda cavorting with the enemy. Walter Cronkite telling us the war was lost, night after night. John Kerry returning to gleefully slander our troops. The perpetuation of the Vietnam lie is also what today's enemy counts on. The Islamist enemy knows it can only win the war with the help of American media. and media worldwide. Fascists know where they can get support, and while it will never be by choice of the majority of any people on Earth, it will always be with the worldwide left, and their only true weapon--control of worldwide media.
