TJ, you seemed to read the suicide rates incorrectly. <nz seems quite the suicidal place as well, along with japan and so much higher than china, hk, taiwan > Here they are: China 15, Hong Kong 10, New Zealand 7, Japan 14. Those are the female rates of suicide.

You can see that Japan and China are both high. Which is not surprising when you look at the males they have on offer. I'm surprised NZ is so low - I suppose they live in hope that I'll be back on the market one day.

Suicide is more of a male thing than female. Suicide and murder are flip sides of the same coin and reflect frustrated megalomania, and anger, and lack of self-satisfaction and control. Males in NZ lack control in many respects, while being hen-pecked as well. Women run the show. Soon we won't even be allowed to buy fireworks.

I suspect the government is worried that people will mistakenly think they are celebrating the attempted blowing up of parliament by Guy Fawkes and get ideas in regard to Helengrad.

Note how Colombia and Brazil have very low suicide rates. But they have excellent murder rates, being world champion in the case of Colombia.

You were no doubt focused on the male suicide rates. Those are generally about 3 times female rates, so one could argue they are more important, though I'd cheerfully swap 4 blokes for one woman.
