I have known people who quit drugs and alcohol. The most successful (and easy to tolerate) were the ones who simply made a personal decision. The massive and expensive government funded programs have a huge recidivism rate.

You must accept a sick victim and dependant identity even to consider such programs... and become a life long member. I suppose that is better than living in the gutter and I am happy for those who have truly recovered from a destitute life of addiction.
