I have no real bone to pick with what you wrote. The article accompanying the chart was somewhat slanted.

Clinton had things go in his favor - but Bush also entered office with some nice things going for him - government spending and taxes roughly in balance. The first thing Bush did was upset the apple cart with a massive tax cut - and then claimed the tax cut wasn't responsible for the resulting huge deficits.

Add the prescription drug plan, the war in Iraq, 9/11, Katrina... if you want to pay for those things you need to raise taxes - not cut them. No one likes big government, but, darn it, if a hurricane requires a massive relief effort what logical citizen would object to contributing a few bucks to pay for it?

The theory that the Bush tax cuts helped revive the economy is suspect. The Fed with it's 1% interest rates did far more, IMHO.

Add to the fact that Bush never vetoed a single spending bill...

If one had to choose the more fiscally responsible President... it's hard to choose Bush over Clinton.
