I provided a press release from Sirius explaining their reason for launching a fourth satellite (GEO, by the way) because their reception sucks. As I pointed out in the same post, if you don't count the fact that Sirius has ended up having to have TWO MORE SATELLITEs (and we still don't know that it will provide adequate reception for them), maybe you can call it cost effective. .

You mean this one??

""This investment in next generation space technology will improve SIRIUS' already exceptional service experience," said Mel Karmazin, CEO of SIRIUS. "Not only will this satellite support our other three satellites currently in orbit, but it will also improve reception for all SIRIUS subscribers whether they are in their car, office, home or jogging in the park."

Not one word that states "their reception sucks". And by those net adds, it doesn't appear that their are reception problems??

???? Let me see here.. SIRI has launched SIRI-1, SIRI-2, and SIRI-3...

XM has launched XM-Rock, XM-Roll, and XM-3???

Maybe I am having basic math problems here..
But, on my calculator.. That's 3 each that have been launched??

In addition.. Here is what XM's 10-K from 2004 stated about the health of XM satellite constellation.

We have been disclosing since the third quarter of 2001 a progressive degradation problem with the solar array output power of Boeing 702 class satellites, including both XM Rock and XM Roll. Based on the consistency of the degradation trends and continuing analyses by BSS and us, our management adjusted the estimated useful lives of our in-orbit satellites, with effect from September 2002, to the period running through first quarter 2008 (approximately 6.75 years from launch). We launched our XM-3 satellite in February 2005, to be placed in one of our orbital slots.

Heck, it looks XM is going to LAUNCH YET ANOTHER SATELLITE to compensate for their Power Output Degradation Problems. So that will make it 4. AND THEY ARE BUILDING ANOTHER SATELLITE XM-5 FOR A GROUND SPARE. So that is 5. LOL!!! Good God Man... Good thing they invested all that money in a good terrestrial network.. Because it appears that part of their space segment is in dis-repair. Why XM continued the order for the Boeing 702 cans is anyone's guess... I mean the problems with the 702 cans were well known at the time.

Just so ironic to see someone lobbing moltav cocktails at SIRI while their own house burns to the ground..

Must be BITTERNESS???

And so it goes,
