A lot of them get very nice "consulting" contracts from various Saudis. Or hired by the ME dept of one of our universities to fill a teaching position funded by the Saudis.

I do not like the sound of that at all.

Thirty years ago a forestry professor of mine got a contract to work with the Saudis on forestry programs in Saudi Arabia (I forget the details).

He was about to embark on his journey when the State Department got involved. The result was cancellation of the contract.

Evidently universities do not contract with foreign governments without going through State.
