See my previous post. Where would we be without universal telephone and electric service, the interstate highway system, transcontintal railroads or aviation - the post office subsidized early aviation ventures with "airmail" service. The Apollo program and the early internet were government programs that were quite successful. There are many others... the Panama canal, the Federal Aviation Administration airport programs... The list is quite large.

Full government control doesn't work. No government involvement is equally bad. A mix of public and private efforts is necessary to enable our economy and society to move forward at a pace that will continously improve our standard of living...

I wonder where this near infinite faith in the ability and competence of the Federal Government to do ANYTHING comes from. Certainly not from experience. Experience should tell you if they tried this it would end up as a $100 billion boondoggle disaster.
