The 100 MHz 440BX is not quite ready for prime time. Although the logic seems to work OK, and the 100 MHz speed is achievable, the design needs to be "optimized" to yield better at 100 MHz. This is Intel's first attempt at such speeds for the chip set, and they are "learning a lot".

I think late Q1/early Q2 98 is the target date for introduction of the 440BX/100 MHz chip.
