American Journal of Perinatology, August/97 issue, there is a study from a group of clinicians and pharmacist (I do not remember authors institution), but they concocted a mixture of regular nutritional intravenous lipids (fats)with amphotericin B, for the sole purpose of finding a cheap alternative to the comercial liposome formulations, which they do considered to expensive. They have good results in decreasing toxicity. No emphasis in decreasing duration of treatment which remains an advantage of the comercial forms. Probably someone will find a way for that too. In poor countries the mixing will be a great alternative. They did show decent results. I do not know if this journal is in the web, but many medical libraries have it. I do not know how many US hospitals will try this, is not the US way, but in Europe will be a hit. This will bring more price pressure to the liposome companies if it become a significant trend.
