Nokia Wins Appeal In Bid To Stay Qualcomm Litigation .............................

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Nokia Corp. (NOK) won a minor legal victory against Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) Friday when an appeals court sent back for review a district court's decision to deny Nokia's motion to stay their patent dispute.

The ruling could potentially delay the legal proceedings if U.S. District Court Judge Rudi Brewster decides to grant Nokia's motion to stay for further arbitration. In November, Qualcomm sued Nokia for patent infringement despite a patent agreement already in place between the two companies.

Qualcomm dismissed the ruling Monday. "This is a non-substantive ruling regarding Nokia's claim," spokeswoman Emily Kilpartick said in an emailed statement. "Nokia is working very hard to delay this case and obstruct with non-substantive issues."

A Nokia spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment Monday. The company is seeking to have an arbitrator rule on several disputed issues, which it believes requires a delay of the trial.
