By-passing the net: I access a cellular network, and at a certain point the operator have a media gateway connecting to an operator of Wi-Fi sites, from there my call is handed over to the Wi-Fi operator, which have it's own network.

You can roam around using this system: Suppose that Wi-Fi network is in Brazil. You get there and can hook up your laptop and call your wife cellular phone in Vancouver.

There's a whole lot of technical possibilities. But is it economic, or are the operators going for it since they have a lot of sunken investment in the licenses they've paid and the networks they've already built?

Thinking just say in British Columbia: An operator of Wi-Fi can have a deal with the cellular operator to connect his VoIP to the cellular operator. Why an operator would do that -share the revenue- with a Wi-Fi operator? Why he just go there and put up a microcell inside that premises since he's already present province wide?
