Thunderwood Resources Inc. - High Grade Copper Mineralization Intersected On The Lew Copper-Zinc-Gold Property In Manitoba
TORONTO, ONTARIO--Thunderwood Resources Inc. and Consolidated Abitibi Resources Ltd. announce that high grade copper mineralization has been intersected within two zones on the Lew volcanogenic copper-zinc-gold property which is located approximately 20 kilometers east of Flin Flon, Manitoba.
Hole 97-LW-3, which was collared to test the down plunge depth potential of known high grade copper mineralization on the property, intersected 17.0 percent Cu, 2.0 percent Zn and 2.0 g/t Au over a core length of 3.2 feet within the 23 Zone and 8.4 percent Cu and 0.8 g/t Au over a core length of 23.8 feet within the 24 Zone. This hole intersected the 24 Zone at a vertical depth of 425 feet which is approximately 100 feet down plunge from prior hole 122, which intersected 3.8 percent Cu and 0.8 g/t Au over a core length of 57.7 feet, and approximately 50 feet along strike to the east of prior hole 144, which assayed 3.1 percent Cu, 1.6 percent Zn and 0.1 g/t Au over a core length of 18.3 feet. Hole 97-LW-6, which was collared to intersect the 24 Zone approximately 125 feet further down plunge from hole 97-LW-3, has intersected appreciable copper mineralization over core lengths of approximately 11.0 and 22.0 feet in zones which correlate with the 23 and 24 Zones, respectively. Assay results are pending. Two additional holes, 97-LW-4 and 97-LW-5, which were drilled approximately 100 feet apart, 250 feet vertically below hole 97-LW-3, appear to be east of the plunge trend of the high grade copper mineralization in the 24 Zone. However, hole 97-LW-4, the westernmost of the two holes, intersected minor pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralization within a 20-25 foot thick, heavy black chlorite alteration zone at the projected location of the 24 Zone. A downhole Pulse EM survey identified an off-hole anomaly at this location that suggests that conductive sulphides lie approximately 100 feet west of the hole. Hole 97-LW-7, which has been targeted to test for additional copper sulphide mineralization west and below hole 97-LW-4, is currently drilling.
The 23 Zone contains abundant fine grained, banded and bedded pyritic mud and chert with appreciable copper and zinc mineralization and is interpreted to be a classical "cherty" exhalite horizon whereas the 24 Zone contains appreciable stringer copper mineralization within a black chlorite alteration zone which is believed to represent a copper "stringer" zone.
Assays are also awaited from two additional holes, 97-LW-1 and 97-LW-2, that were drilled to test IP and/or gravity anomalies on other parts of the property. These holes intersected stringer pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralization and one significant off-hole
Pulse EM anomaly, which requires drilling, was identified in hole 97-LW-2.
The Lew project has the potential to host a high grade copper deposit and drilling is continuing. The project is owned 100 percent by Aur Resources Inc. Thunderwood Resources and Consolidated Abitibi are each earning a 30 percent interest in the property.
-30- ============= Stock closed at $C 0.33. Gotta be a bargain. Even Aur thinks that this is probably a mine.
Here's an excerpt from Aur's press release of Sept. 26/97 on their exploration activities.
"6. Lew Base Metal Project - Manitoba
A drilling program designed to extend known high-grade copper-zinc mineralization on the Lew property was initiated in late August. To date, four holes have been completed which significantly enhance the potential for the delineation of an economic base metal deposit being developed. Hole 97-LW-3 of this program intersected four intervals of massive sulphides and stringer mineralization. Assays from one of the intervals averaged 8.4 percent Cu, 6.2 g/t Ag and 0.8 g/t Au over 23.8 feet at a depth of 425 feet confirming the extension of this high-grade copper deposit. A second zone in this hole averaged 17.0 percent Cu, 2.0 percent Zn, 76 g/t Ag and 2.0 g/t Au over 3.2 feet while assays for the other two more pyritic zones in this hole are still pending.
Holes 97-LW-4 and 97-LW-5, which were drilled approximately 100 feet apart, 250 feet vertically below hole 97-LW-3, appear to be east of the plunge trend of the high-grade copper deposit. Hole 97-LW-4, the westernmost of the two holes, intersected minor pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralization within a 20-25 foot thick heavy black chlorite alteration zone and a Pulse EM survey down this hole identified an off-hole anomaly at this location which suggests that conductive sulphides exist approximately 100 feet west of this hole. Hole 97-LW-6 intersected two zones of massive and stringer sulphides with appreciable copper mineralization over core lengths of 11 and 22 feet in zones which correlate with those of hole 97-LW-3. Hole LW-97-6 confirms the down plunge continuity of the deposit below hole LW-97-3. Assays for these holes are pending and hole LW-97-7, designed to test for the continuation of this high grade copper deposit to depth, is currently in progress. ===============
