I don't particularly have an issue with a person being religious. I consider myself a spritual person. When it comes to Bush and religion, I have two issues: (1) as I have been trying to convey, it is a matter of degrees. For example, in the article you provided Bush says:

"I think if...you become more spiritual, you begin to realize the effect of alcohol over-consuming because it begins to drown the spirit...If you change your heart, you can change your behavior"

This is a position with which most Americans could agree with. But Bush was being careful use "sprituality" rather than "Christianity". He used "spirit" rather than "soul". He made sure he said "a seed in my heart" rather than will of God and consultations with Him. The dictionary meaning of these may be close but their connotations are not. He was deceptive. In fact, he still speaks from both sides of his mouth when it comes to religion; he uses code words and phrases that his RR supporters would easily pick on but many Americans would not...I don't know about you, but I find this behaviour highly objectionable...are other politicians liars as well? Yes they are, but I think GW gets the cake on that front and I find his behaviour more disgusting since he wraps it the flag and in self righteousness...and I don't think he really cares much for anything beyond his "legacy" and his hunger for power.
