How to build an iptv set-top box.

ip is internet protocol, which is internet dotnet(soap) packet format to video VGA. Tv is NTSC or PAL.

So, the cheap set-top box uses packets with Mpeg2/4 codecs for video and audio multimedia, and failed on mpeg1 codec if used.

This means that set-top box has to be more powerful with faster cpu and more drams to do more codecs for internet communication. Which then converts to NTSC or PAL TV signals.

Cheap iptv set-top boxes failed to deliver all the internet communication capabilities. On the other hand cable set-top boxes can do everything including local telephone using internet protocols. A lot of design features can be learned from cable set-top boxes.

If iptv is used for cellphones and GPS cellphones in the future. A more powerful set-top box can still handle the internet protocols that ordinary desktop or laptop can handle.
