I'm all for stable marriages- but I don't see the point in excluding people. If the bigots out there want to keep gays from having the same sorts of rights of passage that heterosexuals have, then let them make their churches bitgoted places of exclusion- but the government has no place in enforcing religious edicts.

There is no evidence that gay marriage would have any influence on marriage, and the argument that it would destroy the institution is just silly, and a cover for what the people who dislike gays are really saying: "We don't like gays, and we don't want them to get any goodies we can keep them from getting." It's a free country (sort of) but generally we don't enshrine such bigotry in the law any more. I look forward to the day when it will be as odd to be a gay bigot as it is to be a bigot about blacks. The next 20 years should see a considerable die off in the major bigots- and the younger generation is much more liberal on the issue of gays.
