I think whatever the source, there is a clear trend of increasing global temperatures. Here's a graph from NASA GISS....

All I'm suggesting is that for any given year, you can no longer expect an "average" winter based on the last 120 years. Yearly temperatures aren't randomly distributed over the last 120 years. And there's a clear acceleration of the trend since the mid 1990s.
