Waste falls into two categories, high level and low level. Low level waste is easy, just put it on a yard and circle it with a fence for a few years. High level is trickier, but it is a much smaller volume. It can be reprocessed to recover useable radioactives. Any large scale power program should probably use breeders. That would convert the uranium 238 to plutonium 239, which could be used as fuel for plutonium reactors. We don't do that now, primarily because there is fear that the plutonium could be diverted to nefarious uses. Seems silly, I think that security can be maintained.

After processing, there will be a small volume of nasties. They can be stored until we figure out what to do with them. If nothing else, we can pick a crater and impact them on the Moon. That wouldn't be cheap, but it would solve the problem. With the added bonus that if we figure out a use for them in the future, they can be recovered.
