Context, Pro, context. Are these quotes superfluous to the story or part of it? Anyone who's been to Southeast Asia wouldn't be particularly surprised by some of the scenes described -- the lower classes there have a completly different way of looking at some things than we Americans have, especially WRT sex.

I've certainly read raunchier passages in best-selling books. From the scenes you provided, they seemed to be fairly neutral descriptions of some scenes Webb wanted to convey.

I'm not trying to defend him on this, but neither do I think that something he describes in a novel is necessarily indicative of him being some sort of moral degenerate or misogynist.
