I first ran across it in the manual for the Sinclair ZX-80. There was a page where they introduced the various components on the motherboard. Pointing out the random access memory(RAM), the central processing unit(CPU), the gate array logic(GAL) and noted that computers were full of three letter abbreviations(TLA)...
