Ray-Ban Hopes to Party Like It's 1983 By Relaunching Its Wayfarer Shades

[story in today's Journal, page B1]

online.wsj.com

Increasingly, shades are becoming an integral part of designers' creative themes for any particular season and are often worn by models on the catwalk. One of the reasons: Sunglasses can cost little to make, but command high prices if they are seen as a fashion product.

$179.95 for Wayfarers, including $50 for the polarized lenses? That could be extremely profitable for Luxottica.

They must believe "there's a Ray-Ban customer born every minute."
