The Burning Bush

It burned with the heat of autumn, but was not consumed. No angel of the Lord appeared to the canoeman, no Exodus out of Egypt, no laws laid down on tablets.

He shipped his paddle for a moment, reflecting on the knowledge of winter to come.

Then he paddled on.
