For those who have access to a Trader Joes, I recently bought a Mendoza Bonarda. The name of the wine is Amaicha, which from an Indian tribe in the northwestern part of Argentina. I wasn't familiar with the varietal, so I did some googling and found out that it is the widely planted varietal in Argentina. This travel log gives you an idea of the area from which wine originates.

For four dollars I thought the wine is a bargain. Very drinkable with some similarities to a zin, but without the high percentage of alcohol. Here is one reviewer's view of the varietal. (Not the bottle I bought.)

"...reminds me of a heavy-ish Merlot - though not quite the bold flavors of a big California Zin or Petite Sirah. I would only serve this wine with intensely flavored tomato pasta dishes, grilled spicy sausage, or of course, pizza."

IMO, it's similar to Merlot in that it's low in tannins, but has greater peppery flavors. I found it very enjoyable and went back and bought more.
