The Wall Street Journal -- July 16, 1996

Health Brief -- PALOMAR MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES INC.:
FDA Approval Is Received
For Hair Removal System

Palomar Medical Technologies Inc. said it received approval from the
Food and Drug Administration to sell its new laser-based hair removal
system, Epilaser in the U.S. The Beverly, Mass., company is already
selling the system in Europe and Canada. The new U.S. business is
expected to nearly triple the company's overall laser sales this year.
The company, which also makes other lines of laser systems for removing
wrinkles, spider veins and tatoos, is projected to chalk up revenue of
$80 million in 1996, according to analysts. Approximately half of that
will come from laser system sales, predicted Steven Georgiev, chairman
and chief executive officer. The remainder is expected to come from the
sale of automotive electronic systems and personal computers, Mr.
Georgiev said. Palomar sells its laser units for $60,000 to $100,000
each. Palomar had sales of $22 million in 1995.
