Addendum to previous post... Barrick's general manager in Peru, Raymond Threlkeld, announced this at a Peruvian mining conference in Arequipa (David Henstridge in attendance?). I recently asked IR for an Indonesian exploration company what was needed to move junior golds in this time of post-Bre X, low pog, and majors closing down marginal mines. He said that a major such as Barrick starting up a producing mine could really provide a jump-start to juniors. This is what seems to be happening before our eyes in Peru, complete with comments from Barrick about closing down five high-cost mines by the end of 1999 to focus on projects such as Pierina... comments?
