Size is relevant because the size being small precludes a monopolizing of the public trough.

The public trough is so large that its rather hard to monopolize. I don't really understand your point here.

Even if being bigger was more harmful in a way out of proportion with the size increase (maybe if the subsidized company was 10,000 times bigger it was a million times more harmful or something like that), it still wouldn't mean the smaller recipient was not a "parasite" if the larger one was, it would just mean that the large "parasite" would be a real problem, while maybe the small one isn't something you have to worry about much.
