Not only did the "holier than thou" crowd (and I don't feel holier than thou or anyone) see Rush's actions as being an unfair and inappropriate attack on Fox, but many, many conservatives (including my inlaws)found it objectionable. The whole point of my exchange with KLP was to try to point out the political inefficacy of this approach.

I think Malkin, COulter and Rush are making a huge mistake in handling victims this way. Pointing out a tactic, explaining how a victim may be being used for political reasons, is one thing, but when you bring the personal element into it, question the basic integrity of the victim, especially someone as sympathetic as Fox, you run a serious risk of looking like a jerk. And Rush did.

You can spin this anyway you like, but the bottom line is that he was perceived as ignorant and mean-natured by a great many more people than just hard core liberals.
