I think we are close to apples to apples. I think there's a little warm up with fuel cells from waste heat, and some power used by the electronic control system, but we should be close.

I think you're right - Fuel cells are very picky. Gases like Hydrogen and NG seem to be easier to purify than liquids.

Sulfur also seems to be a lubricant for diesel operation, and I have read that running low sulphur diesel results in slightly higher wear on the engine.

JQPublic knows a lot about the auto industry, it would be good to get his view if he's around.
