I think Iraq is a lost cause...but regardless, pulling out would not have a long term effect. The US credibility issue (or lack there of) has been in the making for decades and it will take decades of consistent foreign policy to make up for it. The big problem is of course that there is no continuity in our foreign policy and it is primarily hostage to various special interest groups.
