Solon -

The problem I'm having is with the use of the term "accusation". Pointing out that someone does something is not equivalent to making an accusation. To go back to my example, I can point out that my neighbor is not a churchgoer, but when I do so I may not be making an accusation against him. If I were an atheist, it might even be construed as praise.

I will say that it's kind of silly to say that "liberals do this" or "conservatives do that". I'm guilty of overgeneralization when I do that.

And yes, liberals (including myself) do point out that conservatives use situational ethics with regard to wire tapping, detention of prisoners, suspension of due process, etc. I'm not denying that liberals point that out. But as I've said, my problem is not that the conservatives use situational ethics in justifying those things. What I'm accusing them of is making poor choices in applying those situational ethics. So its the choices themselves I'm not happy with, not the fact that situational ethics have been employed in making them.

I can't speak for all liberals, but that's how I feel about it.
