Your unlikely to get any kind of actual armed conflict over these waters. But for many Canadians its also a matter of principle. Yes it is a matter of principle... Unfortunately our previous Liberal, note the big L, government poo pooed the whole affair of northern sovereignty while maintaining tenuous relations with Mr. Bush's administration. Our current Conservative government while maintaining a good relationship is quite clear on the sovereignty issue... It's ours. The current PM was ridiculed for pushing the idea of patrolling the north with well armed ice breakers. Funny that they were scoffed at as the previous Liberal gov paid billions for garbage British subs... none of which work to spec and quite possibly may never see duty again... One which saw limited duty caught fire, and killed one sailor. Thankfully it was not a Kirsk like affair.. In there end though the real issue is possibly more far reaching... what if major resource discoveries are made.. Al
