>> The members of the Iraqi government and security forces that are working to stabilize the country.

All of whom had no choice than to cooperate with US if they wanted to establish the government...

They didn't have to be part of the government. And I'm not just talking about senior officials, but also lower level employees.

You can argue that our credibility isn't worth continuing to fight in Iraq, that even if our credibility takes a hit, we should take the hit and move on, but I don't see any reasonable way to argue that we would take no hit on our credibility from pulling out.

as to the "security forces", have you been following the news on who really has their loyalty?

The fact that they aren't universally loyal to the government doesn't mean that none of them are.

>> They could have become resistance/insurgents.

No they couldn't...not if they wanted to assure they will have all/most of the power in the country...

Again I wasn't talking about just senior officials. And even people motivated by desire for power, did join up partially because they relied on the US to support them. The power motivation doesn't remove the credibility issue.

>> I disagree both in terms of the level of credibility you imply the US has, and in terms of how low credibility can go.

That is your choice, but it is not based on facts on the ground.

Yes it is.

Start looking up the polls on ME view of the US...heck, even some wealthy European nations think US is the number one threat to the world

"Number one threat to the world" doesn't equal and really isn't even strongly related to "lowest possible credibility". Even a real number one threat can be very credible.
