Well that response may explain a lot.

I understand the possible embarrassment to a non-muslim with your views; but, I didn't realize disclosure of one's legitimate philosophical presupposition, if any, would be threatening.

I guess were you a true believer in islam, any denial or side-stepped that question, would be tantamount to a public denial of islam.
