If every single American considered being in Iraq stupid, it wouldn't be very relevant to the particular discussion (although it would be very relevant to issues that are probably more important). Substitute wrong for stupid if that is better for you semantically. No that works worse, as wrong can imply immoral in addition to mistake. In any case I'm not currently discussing the issue of Iraq but rather Kerry's comments.
