I followed Trimble ten years ago.

They were the GPS pioneer and Trimble GPS was used in the first War of "Desert Storm". Then they failed to take advantage of their technological leadership. Of course, a rising tide raises all boats.

My point is that all GPS gear makers had been enjoying unreasonably too high profit margin for too long. Like PC and PC motherboard, when GPS price goes down and becomes a commodity. Garmin's tumbling yesterday is just a beginning. Their best time has past, period.

The chip maker and map/data producer - SIRF and NVT both are monopoly - will be the winners.
