"I saw the prices of said rooftop solar panels. Not very economical at the moment.

Answer #1 - MASSIVE government subsidies and incentives. CA will pay half the cost of those panels NOW. When I priced installation on my little beach bungalow, my end came out to 18k. I almost pulled the trigger, but then got laid off..

Answer #2 - Those new super capacitor rechargable cars with MASSIVE government subsidies and incentives.

Massive government subsidies don't make something more economical, they just mean that someone else (tax payers) are paying the price.

Also even with "free" (100% government subsidized) super capacitors, or advanced batteries, and government paying 1/2 the cost of the solar cells, I still don't think there will be a mass market for solar cars any time soon.
