Creating the strangle when it isn't done at the same time creates more profit since you buy the put on a rally and the call on a retreat. then if you own the stk you sell the covered calls when it rallies. Your post indicated it was a new strategy for you. Is this new? This strategy had not crossed my mind in the past. It is an excellent idea. Glenn PS I never read it anywhere either.
