Cat people are individualistic libertarians, or at least slightly right wingers, dog people are socialists and totalitarian leftists, liking to run in a pack: <"The very idea that something like a political ideology could be heritable is incoherent," said Evan Charney, assistant professor of public policy and political science at Duke University. "It doesn't make any sense, and it's historically inaccurate.">
If people had their votes checked against their pets, you would find that like their pets, their differences are genetic. Cats aren't individualistic because they decide to be, any more than dogs decide to get excited about seeing other dogs and wanting to run in a pack with them and smell bums, or homosexuals decide they quite like the idea of same-sex relationships, or heterosexuals ogle blokes but decide that girls look better.
A corollary I've just invented is that the reason people go from being left-wing socialist pack runners when young to right-wingers when older is not just what I'd thought, which was the development of experience and realizing that governments are bludging kleptocratic suffocatocracies, any more than wisdom teeth coming through are chosen because they make nut-cracking easier.
Humans develop through many stages, with their genes expressing at different times. When in adolescence, they are remarkably like chimps. As we age, our genetic development continues and we start voting for human values, not territorial tribal dominance hierarchy monkey values.
So, it's time to raise the voting age to 30! Children can have an opinion in how to run a family, but they don't actually take over, even when they have a majority. A man and woman with 10 children don't abdicate to the lowest common denominator.
I admit that when I was 18, I was instrumental in getting the vote in NZ reduced to 18. It seemed perfectly sensible to me at the time since NZ had conscription for military service. Now I realize it wasn't. Many young people live to regret their foolish young actions which they stop repeating by the time they have reached 21 and certainly by the time they reach 30. Many young people do not live to regret anything.
NZ had military conscription because the vote was already too low at 21 and there weren't enough libertarians.
Votes for those over 30! Young blokes can get on with what they should be doing - chasing girls, running around having fun and learning how to do something useful, and doing it. Young sheilas should get on with what they should be doing - chasing blokes, having babies, putting on makeup, and playing house or whatever it is they think is fun and useful to do.
Vote at 30.
