If you read fundamental analysis on Silicon investor, you might notice that a business plan is proposed. If you see a huge market for the products, and the technology can make obscene profits. You then see if market makers come in to make and maintain a market. Nasdaq has a list of market makers for each stock. Market makers had to register for any stock.

The size of the market maker and their cash position is the size of market they can handle. Many market makers made up a bigger market, that you can buy and sell this stock.

Today, mutual funds have monthly subscriptions, and has the most cash. But they don't run companies like NYSE specialists. In other words no business plan for the companies to succeed.

So, it is still the full service brokerages that can do the best for you.

Footnote:
Wgnr is a small company. So when Morgan Stanley did the market making, the stock peaked at $17.50. Then later, UBS did the market making, the stock peaked at $7.50. Now it is $1, because a better business plan is in the making. But find out who is doing the market making and you know if business plan is good. How high is the moon?
