I don't deny some of Iraq is better off now without Saddam - mostly the Kurdish north.

There is a lot of proof out there that large parts of Iraq are still a "war zone" 3 1/2 years after the invasion. I question if these areas will ever truly be controlled because it seems as long as we stay there will be a wicked insurgency. The trouble with insurgents is by day they will sell you an apple and by night they are trying to kill you.

My opinion is that Baker's imminent report on Iraq will suggest upping the troop strength it’s the only card left to play now. They are holding that report until after the election as I recall because they don't want to "politicize" it although obviously if true the American people should be allowed to pass judgment on it.
