Vietnam was the stupidest and most dishonest war in US history, though if Bush-Cheney get their way Iraq could eventually top it. Vietnam was first esclataed based on a totally phony incident. The Tonkin Gulf attack did not really happen. As the Pnetagon Papers proved. Second, Johnson and Nixon's whole reason for strategy for being there was another case of extreme denial. As the film "Fog Of War" plainly shows, those hawks had brainwashed themselves into believing North Vietnam Was a paw of the Soviets and Chinese and a clkear threat to us. In fact, as they found out later, it was just a civil war and the VC hated the Soviets and CHinese. How do we know this? Because once we left the first thing the VC did was to kick out all Soviet advisors and go to war against red China. And since then Vietnam has been no threat to us whatsoever. They don't even speak ill of us despite the fact we killed millions of their people and devastated their rural areas with Agent Orange and carpet bombing.
