Have you ever seen a picture of a Roman toilet arrangement? Quite sanitary. We didn't approach it in the West again until the end of the 19th century. Here is one in Ephusus.




When you went in, an attendant would hand you a cloth brush with a handle for wiping. It was a water borne system with a cistern and one end and a sewer at the other. The major Palaces in Europe 200 years ago didn't have anything as good. People were going behind the drapes.
