Walter, Although it would appease your sense of Justice (and mine too) if the peasants here rose up and overturned the Suharto kleptocracy, this may in fact not be the best thing for the average populice. For one thing, unlike the people power revolution in the Philippines, Indonesian coups tend to be extremely bloody. Secondly the average Indonesian has done very well during the stability of the Suharto years. Outside the bigger cities he has almost total support. The wealth gap has widened fantastically but the base level has also risen a lot too. Remeber the populist Sukarno. The country was a disaster, one of the poorest in the world, a legacy of the Dutch.
