Xoma Named Biodefense Subcontractor

Xoma Is Named Biodefense Subcontractor to Government, Eligible to Receive Up to $28.1 Million

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Drug research company Xoma Ltd. said Tuesday it was named as a subcontractor to produce biodefense and infectious disease-related products for the U.S. government.
The subcontract is expected to run for five years and reach as much as $28.1 million, the company said.

The company said it is negotiating final terms of the agreement with the prime contract awardee, SRI International, a non profit research institute.

Under its subcontract, Xoma would manufacture monoclonal antibody therapeutic agents for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a division of the National Institutes of Health.

Shares of Xoma rose 14 cents to close at $2.37 on the Nasdaq. Earlier, shares traded as high as $2.48, edging out a previous 52-week high of $2.46.
